A word from the Director of Plant Operations and Maintenance Services...
In 1806 the United States Congress passed an Act that would open the doors for public education in Davidson County, Tennessee. Because of that Act, Robertson Academy School was opened in Southern Davidson County on property donated by the John Overton Family.
In 1855, the first public school opened in Nashville, Tennessee-Alfred Hume was one of the first teacher's and Joshua Pearl was the first Superintendent of schools - Hume school was located on the corner of Spruce and Broad Streets.
Since those times, for more than 200 years - someone, somewhere somehow has been repairing schools. The employees of Maintenance and Operations take their charge of maintaining schools very seriously. We recognize that children need clean, safe, conditioned environments to learn.
From the days of the little Red School Houses with pot belly stoves to this age of "Cyber Classrooms", we remain... "Proud of our History, involved with the present and excited about the future".
