East Literature Magnet School is a thematic magnet school located in the heart of historic East Nashville. Our theme is literature and our curriculum is built around the expressions of ideas in words, music and art. There is no entrance qualification for our school. Students just have to express a desire to participate in this literature-based, college preparatory program by submitting an application for the lottery selection process.

East Literature Magnet School opened  its doors in the fall of 1993 as a school-within- a-school on the campus of East  Middle School. The school now fills the entire campus of the historic East Nashville High School and East Nashville Junior High School. In September 2005, we dedicated our new campus and celebrated the completion of the renovation of our buildings. We are the only public school program serving grades five through 12 in Davidson County. With both a middle school building and a high school building, we are able to successfully address the unique needs of both programs. Our total enrollment now exceeds 1200 students.
